the commentary
Our first look at Taylor’s TAY/kover on Late Night. I did not expect this more subdued colour palette, especially in comparison to the glittery late night looks we’ve seen thus far from Graham Norton (a crystal neck LBD by David Koma) and Jimmy Fallon (a chain mail silver mini by Giuseppe di Morabito) but I love it so!
To me, I read the soft floral brocade as a possible “Ophelia” reference - a nod to the flowers that outline her floating corpse in the river of her demise. Of course, Taylor’s plot twist take on the Shakespearean play in her song “The Fate of Ophelia” renders the pattern more romantic and dreamy than tragic. Plus the dark background it plays against feels appropriate for a late night appearance.
If the floral brocade is an “Ophelia” reference, the scallop vintage-inspired embroidery leans into the art deco / vintage / showgirl glitzy theme. Big fan of this look head to toe and appreciate how the shoes and necklace create sparkly “bookends” for the outfit.
