the commentary
With 13 days to go until Taylor’s 12th studio album, we’re getting more behind-the-scenes content about the making of the packaging! “We wanted this album to feel really luxurious as a nod to the luxury that a showgirl puts on when she’s on stage,” Taylor said in a clip shared to Taylor Nation. I’ve always maintained the level of intentional thought Taylor puts into carving out each era’s distinct aesthetic. It was heartening to hear that sentiment in her approach to crafting the album’s visuals. I wonder if these clips are previews from The Party of a Showgirl which advertises “never-before-seen personal reflections” about the making of the album.
This clip also gives us a more “street style” approach to Taylor’s take on Showgirl’s fashion. The album visuals, of course, are dramatic and editorial and likely not what we’d see her wear on, say, a casual dinner out. Here, we get a glimpse of what that might be! I love the contrast of soft and hard textures between the soft cashmere crew (in Showgirl orange) contrasting against the tight leather skirt. It mirrors Taylor’s admission in the video about the dichotomy between the showgirl when she’s on stage vs the scrambling costume quick change behind the scenes. Two forces that evoke two opposing feelings. It also feels like a classically Taylor fall ‘fit (top + mini skirt + chunky loafers).
Taylor’s signature style pillar was on display here with a few repeats. We saw the Foundrae charm in June 2025 and the shoes from an outing in NYC in 2023. This also sees a new addition to her growing watch collection - a Versace timepiece that coordinates neatly with the skirt. Anyone else happen to notice the way the Ralph Lauren emblem also tied into the hue of her crew? Amazing.
