the commentary

What I momentarily mistook for a classic feminine Chanel tweed is actually a playful houndstooth number from Balmain. This overlap makes sense when you consider designer Karl Lagerfeld’s impact at both houses. From there, my eyes leapt from the bustier-style bodice, the flared pleated skirt, gold hardware details, and frayed elements at the hem and bust. Immediately, this look pulled together the last week of outings. I broke it down over on TikTok. While we might be most used to observing fashion sequencing from Taylor at Chiefs games - where developing a playbook of looks for a season is a winning strategy - it’s also nice to see it play out here on a smaller scale with two NYC dinners playing as neat bookends to two football-related events.

When it comes to styling, her Louboutins felt like just the right finisher to me, tying into the bag (an archival closet piece from her closet circa 2016!) and also not competing with the statement of the dress. Overall, the look feels like it hits many of Taylor’s signature feminine fashion - a bit vintage, a bit twee, a bit girly, a bit glam.

On the jewelry front, I thought her most interesting new additions were her necklace and watch. The necklace because it adds to her statement Cartier chain collection. Taylor’s most repeated Cartier piece is her ‘Agrafe’ vintage herringbone chain that we first saw in May 2023 and she’s worn a number of times since. While that piece was a true vintage number, this particular one still retails. It is actually one of the longest standing designs from the house - having been first introduced in 1914. Now about that Rolex! Only in the last year or so has Taylor started to develop a watch collection. This one is the daintiest of the three (another Cartier and a Louis Vuitton) she’s worn so far. Her Ofira ring is one she’s worn on many occasions (Ofira is also the sister brand of Lorraine Schwartz, Taylor’s go-to for red carpet jewelry) but that I only just recently successfully identified this week. The geometric shape is, as its name implies, designed to look like a tattoo ringing one’s finger. Of course, my first thought trailed back to Taylor’s very own lyric that seems most apt to describe it: You made your mark on me, a golden tattoo.
