The Life of a Showgirl
Worn On: 10/3/25 // the life of a showgirl
the commentary
One way that Taylor has described this album as her life behind the curtain, including her post-show come down. I argue that this image artfully plays with the bridge between performance and the authentic self. Even on her way to her hotel room, the showgirl continues to posture and perform. Still glittering, still stuffed into her tights and heels. Almost as if the show is never truly over. She is now the glitter on the floor after the world tour.
Taylor’s exact dress was originally a custom design which the designer told me took her and her team 13 days to make. Of course! Randall has since put the dress up for sale as a commissionable piece, named so after “The Fate of Ophelia” naturally.
