the commentary

Taylor paid true homage to showgirl aesthetic by pulling original costumes from the long-standing Vegas show Jubilee! for her album visuals. This particular headdress was designed by Pete Menefee, the other costume designer for Jubilee! It’s my best guess that Taylor reached out to her previous collaborator the famed burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese for the assist in integrating authentic showgirl iconography into this album photoshoot. Von Teese cameoed in Taylor’s “Bejeweled” music video from 2022’s Midnights. She unearthed many of the original costumes from the Jubilee! show for her Vegas residency that paid tribute to the iconic revue. She even wore this specific headdress in her act. Aided by The Last Showgirl stylist Jose Rodrigo. Von Teese told Vogue that the original costumes had been “locked up” in the downstairs of the Jubilee Theater for about a decade. “I thought it was a great time to be able to show them off again,” she said.
